Kingspan Insulation Tape – Superior Strength, Flexibility, and Conformability

Kingspan Insulation Tape is a specialized fire retardant reinforced aluminum foil tape that serves as a reliable solution for creating vapor seal joins in aluminum-faced insulation products like Insulshed. Primarily developed for use in the insulation and air conditioning industries, Kingspan Insulation Tape exhibits exceptional adhesion due to its pressure-sensitive nature, ensuring a secure bond. Additionally, it possesses early fire hazard properties, enhancing safety measures. The unique backing of Kingspan Insulation Tape offers a rare combination of high strength, flexibility, and conformability, making it an ideal choice for various applications.

  1. Ensure that Kingspan Insulation products are installed tightly without any noticeable sag or slack.
  2. For sealing joins, use a reinforced foil insulation tape that is a minimum of 72 mm wide (for commercial and retrofit buildings) or 48 mm wide (for residential buildings).
  3. Prior to applying the tape, make sure the surface is clean and free from any contaminants such as dust, dirt, oil, or silicones. If there is any uncertainty, use a clean rag and mineral turpentine to clean the surface, and wait for it to dry before proceeding.
  4. Center the tape precisely over the join, ensuring equal coverage on both sides.
  5. Apply adequate pressure to the tape using a plastic squeegee or blade. The more surface contact, the better the result.
  6. Follow the contours of the substrate. Avoid pulling the tape tightly or trying to flatten out surface irregularities with the tape. Instead, allow the tape to relax and conform to the surface’s irregularities before rubbing it down. When applied with sufficient pressure, the tape should conform to the insulation’s texture, and the texture of the insulation facing should be visible through the tape.
  7. When sealing angled joints in the longitudinal direction, apply the insulation foil tape in short sections to one side of the join. Use a blade or squeegee to rub it down as far as possible into the corner before applying it to the other side of the join.
