Kingspan Kooltherm K3 Underfloor board boasts an exceptional level of performance, thanks to its rigid thermoset closed cell phenolic insulation core, which is completely free of fiber. This core is sandwiched between an upper facing made of tissue and a lower facing crafted from highly reflective aluminum foil, which is autohesively bonded to the insulation core during production. Kooltherm K3 Floorboard is created without the need for CFCs/HCFCs, meaning that it has a zero Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP) and a low Global Warming Potential (GWP).

Insulation for Concrete Floors and Suspended Ground Floors
Were you aware that a significant amount of heat, up to 10%, can be lost through your home’s flooring? By installing underfloor insulation at the ground level of your house, you can significantly reduce heat loss and create a more comfortable floor temperature for you and your family to walk on. The type of insulation installation required will depend on whether your home has a ground-bearing or suspended floor. For existing and new homes with suspended timber floors that can’t be accessed from below, insulation can be installed by removing the floorboards from above and placing Kooltherm K3 Floorboard between each floor joist. This premium performance rigid thermoset phenolic insulation board is ideal for use with solid concrete and suspended ground floors and can be directly placed onto the concrete floor. Before the floorboards are reinstalled, a fully sealed vapor control layer must be installed above the floor joists and below the floorboards to create an airtight and vapor-tight floor. Adequate and unobstructed ventilation must be maintained at all times to the underside of the suspended timber floor joists. For new homes with solid ground-bearing concrete floor construction, a continuous damp-proof membrane/radon barrier must be installed beneath the insulation or below the structural floor slab, taking care to overlap with any damp-proof course in the external walls. The Kingspan Kooltherm K3 Floorboard can then be placed directly onto the damp-proof membrane or concrete floor slab, followed by a separation layer before the installation of the floor screed.
